Journalist & Photographer
Marcus Haraldsson
Reportage
I have covered stories about the first humans in the Amazon, economic development in China, human rights in Jordan, insurrections in Nepal, skiing in Southern Africa, the collapse of Swedish climate policy, the survival of Costa Rican frogs, National Parks in the United States - and much more.
I am fascinated about unexpected connections and long-term solutions.
A lot happens when stories move beyond the - fast, surprising, and negative - daily news cycle, when we allow a focus on longer term change of people and societies.
If there is one method I tend to use, and use again, it is the act of returning.
Books & large projects
The Children Who Wanted To Save The World
Book (in Swedish by Offside Press/Magasinet Filter, 2023)
Foreword by Christiana Figueres, the Chief Negotiator of the Paris Agreement
In the late 1980s, hundreds of thousands of children across 44 countries engaged in an ambitious project to save the Costa Rican rainforest. I was one of them. What had happened to the forest a generation later?

Participatory and inclusive storytelling projects
Exhibitions, digital platforms, research & skill sharing (2010-2021)
It all started when I lent cameras to African traders to tell their own stories about crossing borders. Then, efforts developed through participation and facilitation into cultural innovation for democracy, freedom of speech and human rights - across continents and back home - for over a decade.
A Line Across China
Book (in Swedish by Alfabeta, 2007)
Exhibitions (2008-2009)
As a young student of Mandarin, I bicycled across China from Tibet to Hong Kong. Seven years later, as a political journalist, I did it again to revisit people and places and describe the massive transformation of what was then the world’s most populous country.
